Improve the way your channels work.
What I mean is let's say I was interested in everything people are saying about President Trump so I would have to add a channel called Donald Trump, Donald J. Trump, President Trump, President Donald Trump, Trump, Donald and so on.
Same thing for topics involving the United States. I would have to create channel tags for USA, US, United Stated, United States of America, America and so forth.
Or for recipes - I currently have two channels for that: Recipe and Recipes.
I should just be able to use one and have it pull up everything else automatically. Recipe channel tag would pull up everything tagged recipe, and recipes. Trump should be able to pull up all those examples I listed up above, same with USA.
As it is, this makes our tag channel list just as long as our own tag list, we'd have to scroll and scroll and scroll just to find the channel tag we want to search for.
I'm tired now, rofl ...all that scrolling! =)
This is a great idea, thx!
Let’s say we have one channel with tags “Trump” and “D. Trump”.
Then this channel would filter links tagged either “Trump” or “D. Trump”, or tagged with both “Trump” and “D. Trump”, correct?

That would work well, yes. And thank you for giving this some consideration. =)

Our first idea was to allow multiple tags per channel.
However, now we think your approach is the better one (if we get it right).
To summarize: a channel would be like a keyword search within your network.
For instance, when someone from your network posts a link with title "Trump next president" and another one a link tagged "donald trump" both links would appear in your channel 'trump'. Correct? -

Or how about this spin on it -- Do what you implied in your comment,
"one channel with tags "Trump" and "D. Trump"
Allow us to select a channel name and after it is created we can right-click the channel name and then assign say up to five tags to it.
Channel name = Trump
Tag1 = Trump
Tag2 = "Donald Trump"
Tag3 = "President Trump"
Tag4 = "Deplorables"
Tag5 = "Donald J. Trump"So we could assign tags we want the channel name to search for. I don't know if this would be easier for you all to implement or if just making the channel names do better searches like the results a person would get if using a search engine.
/shrug =)

I'm a bit confused by your example given. You said, "one channel with tags "Trump" and "D. Trump"
I thought channels were tags essentially? So one channel = one tag. By your comment above you are implying that channels can have more than one tag assigned to them. Or is this what you are thinking of building?
All I was getting at by my suggestion is that when I pick a channel named "Trump" that when it does it's search it should pull up any tag anyone has that includes "Trump" in it's name. So a channel called "Trump" would pull up anyone's tags such as "Donald Trump", "D. Trump", "President Trump", "Trump", "Donald J. Trump" and so on.
But I think you meant the same thing, right? If so then yeah that's correct.
